Sources for the Study of History

The word 'source' refers to the information found from the manuscripts,inscriptions,coins and monuments.It helps the Historians in the reconstruction of our past.These sources give a lot of information about the kings , their coronation,the extent of their empires, their battles they fought, their welfare measures,etc.because they kept records of all what they did. History can be classify two sources

Primary

Secondary

Primary sources include documents or artifacts created by a witness to or participant in an event.  They can be firsthand testimony or evidence created during the time period that you are studying.may include diaries, letters, interviews, oral histories, photographs, newspaper articles, government documents, poems, novels, plays, and music.  The collection and analysis of primary sources is central to historical research.

Secondary sources analyze a scholarly question and often use primary sources as evidence. include books and articles about a topic.  They may include lists of sources, i.e. bibliographies, that may lead you to other primary or secondary sources.

There are several ways of finding out about the past.
